As Shebelieves Cup curtains fall tomorrow, 02/26/2025 with its final round of matches at Snapdragon stadium in San Diego, California, USWNT head coach, Emma Hayes said the focus is on the process which aims on players development.
“ I think for us, I'm focused on the process, it is important to provide opportunity to less experience players and to do it in a tournament setting, there won't be perfection in performance but as long as we are progressing then that's what are aims are to stay focused on that and not to just look at results because that is not our own indicator of future success”
Role of veteran players against Japan
She explained that it will be a team effort as she expects all the players to execute their game plan.
“I think is fair to say that Japan is a team that has played together for some time, there connection and application of their way of playing will probably be more pronounced, but that don't say we can’t have success and it doesn't matter if you have 150+ caps or your 3rd cap, is about us playing our way, our style with our principles and to execute that at another level which is what this game’
She continued “ I expect it to be a very difficult match for us, difficult in a different way from the Olympics because Japan has shifted from playing five at the back to four at the back, I see they are committing more numbers going forward not just in transition, so we have to be extremely disciplined on and off the ball and when we are with it we have to make the impact on how we know best”
Both the USWNT and Japan have 6 points going into the final round of matches, but the Japanese have a better goal difference after they mauled both Australia and Colombia 4 goals each.
