As the SheBelieves Cup kicks off, Kansas City Current forward Michelle Cooper is embracing the opportunity to make an impact for the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT). The 21-year-old rising star has been named to the squad for the prestigious tournament and is eager to showcase her talents on the international stage.
“I’m ready to play my part,” Cooper said confidently ahead of the USWNT’s opening match against Colombia on February 20. “This tournament is a great opportunity to compete at the highest level, and I’m here to contribute in any way I can.”
Emerging as a Key Attacking Option
Cooper, who was drafted second overall by the Kansas City Current in the 2023 NWSL Draft, has been steadily making a name for herself with her explosive pace, technical ability, and clinical finishing. After a strong rookie season in the NWSL, she is now looking to translate that success to the international level.
Under new USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, the team is transitioning, integrating young talent alongside experienced veterans. Cooper’s versatility as both a forward and attacking midfielder makes her an asset in the team’s evolving system.
“I’ve learned so much from the veteran players and the coaching staff,” Cooper said. “The competition for spots is tough, but that’s what pushes us all to be better, the coach is super communicative, and she tells me what is expected of me”
Facing Top International Competition
The SheBelieves Cup will test the USWNT against some of the best teams in the world, including Japan, Australia, and Colombia. Cooper is particularly excited about the challenge of facing Japan’s disciplined defense and Australia’s physicality, as well as the opportunity to play in front of U.S. fans.
“These are the kinds of games where you grow as a player,” Cooper noted. “Every match is going to demand something different, and I’m ready to step up when my number is called, and the teams would be tough nuts to crack”

Building Toward the Future
Beyond the SheBelieves Cup, Cooper has her sights set on a long-term future with the USWNT, including a potential spot in the 2025 Olympics. With an impressive performance in this tournament, she could solidify her place in the national team setup moving forward.
For now, though, her focus is simple: making the most of her opportunity.
“I just want to bring energy, create chances, and do whatever the team needs,” she said. “Every time I put on this jersey, it’s an honor, and I’m going to give it everything I have.”
The USWNT begins its SheBelieves Cup campaign on February 20 against Colombia, with matches against Australia (Feb. 23) and Japan (Feb. 26) to follow.
