In a thrilling showdown at BMO Stadium on Saturday, November 23, the Seattle Sounders edged out LAFC 2-1 in extra time to secure their spot in the 2024 MLS Cup Western Conference Final. The match was filled with drama, high intensity, and moments of brilliance that encapsulated the playoff atmosphere. 

First Half 

The opening 45 minutes saw both teams cancel each other out in a tactical battle. Despite several half-chances, neither side could find the breakthrough. LAFC looked the more dangerous with their home crowd behind them, but the Sounders’ defensive discipline kept them at bay.

The game came to life in the second half, with LAFC taking the lead in the 50th minute. Defender Ryan Hollingshead broke the deadlock early in the second half, the defender found space inside the box and calmly slotted past the Seattle goalkeeper to give the home side a 1-0 lead, sending the crowd into a frenzy. However, the Sounders responded just nine minutes later, albeit through an unfortunate own goal by LAFC defender Maxime Chanot, who inadvertently redirected a dangerous cross into his own net. 

Extra Time 

With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game headed into extra time. Both teams pushed for a winner, but it was the Sounders who found the decisive goal. In the 109th minute, Jordan Morris showed his composure and clinical finishing to slot home after the ball fell his way inside LAFC goal area silencing the LAFC supporters and sending the Seattle bench into jubilation. 

Final Whistle 

Despite LAFC’s best efforts to equalize in the remaining minutes, the Sounders’ defense held firm to secure the victory. The win marked yet another resilient playoff performance by Seattle, a team that has suffered several defeats at the hands of LAFC. 

Looking Ahead 

The Seattle Sounders now advance to the MLS Cup Western Conference Final where they will play the winner of LA Galaxy and Minnesota United game.
