LA Galaxy delivered a dominant performance against the Colorado Rapids, securing a 5-0 victory in their MLS Cup Playoff best of 3 series opener. The Galaxy overwhelmed Colorado with a relentless attack and secured their first win in the new MLS playoff format with a statement victory.
Dejan Joveljic opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, giving Galaxy the lead. In the second half, Galaxy quickly extended their advantage, with Jalen Nelson finding the net in the 52nd minute. Riqui Puig added a third goal just two minutes later, scoring in the 54th minute, which effectively sealed the game.
The Galaxy didn’t let up, as Joveljic struck again in the 75th minute to make it 4-0. Puig capped off the rout with his second goal in the 87th minute, completing a memorable night for the home fans.
LA Galaxy narrowly missed out from the Western conference top seed when they lost to Houston Dynamo 2-1 on decision day, October 19th.
With this victory, LA Galaxy has established itself as a strong contender in the playoffs, while Colorado will need a remarkable turnaround to stay in contention in the series.
